The MOTOMORPHIC JaFM may sound like a student radio station, but it’s actually a new motorcycle designed to run the widest front tyre in the world, a 250-section Avon Venom.
It’s not designed for handling, but the designers have wrestled the laws of physics to the ground and come up with an innovative approach that results in the massive 250-section front tyre being, at the very least, usable if not nimble.
The idea was first developed by MotoMorphic’s Jim Davis in 2001 and the final production version is now ready. The JaFM uses a 998cc Rotax V-Twin, similar to that found in an Aprilia Mille. The massive front tyre tracks the road thanks to top of the range Ohlins front suspension while the rear shock is a fully-adjustable Penske unit.It features a slipper clutch, quickshifter, lashings of carbon fibre and the fuel, like a Buell, is held in the frame.
Don’t expect to be lapping at the front of a trackday; it weights 250kg. But if you want attention at the local bike meet, this is for you.
